The Gonzalez Family | Coming Soon!

High school sweethearts with a 48-year marriage built on faith and service, Daniel and LuAnne have spent decades giving back to their country and the Boise community. Now in their retirement, this local couple recently faced unexpected challenges that put their home’s safety at risk. We are thrilled to announce them as our latest Shine the Light recipients, providing them with a much-needed new roof to honor their resilience and protect their legacy.

The story of Daniel and LuAnne began in 1970, a high school romance that would eventually blossom into a lifelong journey of devotion. They were married in February 1978 by Pastor Chuck Smith at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, marking the start of a union that has now spanned 48 years. In those early days, Daniel served his country in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army before transitioning to a career with the City of Irvine. In 1984, the couple moved to Boise, Idaho—the place they have proudly called home ever since.

Life in Boise brought both joy and trials. After Daniel worked on the grounds crew at Boise State University for nine years, he became disabled, shifting the rhythm of their lives. LuAnne, who had spent 11 years as a dedicated homemaker, stepped into the workforce to support the family. She began by cleaning offices for eight years before finding a long-term home with the West Ada School District. For over two decades, she served as a custodian at two different elementary schools, finally retiring after 21 years of service.

Through every season of change, their faith and family remained their anchors. Today, they are the proud parents of three grown sons, all of whom live within 50 miles of Boise, and the doting grandparents of one granddaughter and two grandsons. Their spiritual journey, which began in California, continues at Calvary Chapel Treasure Valley, where they have been faithful members for the past 20 years. Recently, as retirees living on a fixed income, Daniel and LuAnne have faced the mounting pressure of unexpected home repairs that have strained their resources. In recognition of their lifetime of hard work and their current need, they have been named the newest Shine the Light recipients and will be receiving a brand-new roof. This gift ensures that the home where they have built so many memories remains a safe haven for many years to come.
